Sharing Status Not Public

Summary

To show general areas of steep grade on Initial use has been to show gradient for those features for the BIKE_FACILITIES_LINE (bikemap) layer.

Therefore only selected features were encoded.

At the same time not all features apply to this layer.

Description

Segments of roads with steep grades.

Rate of grade is not inferred.

Beginning of arc depicts uphill direction.

This allows the arc to be symbolized in uphill direction.

Change history

1/1/2009

Updates were made to the layer for the production of the 2009 and 2010 bike maps.

1/1/2008

Areas of steep slope were initially extracted from earlier versions of the bicycle use map.

These locations were enchanced by using spatial analyst to reference a digital slope layer derived from 6-foot cell elevation data.

The features were originally encoded as event tables on an underlying routes system.

However, because maintaining the correct arc direction (for uphill) between the underlying geometry and the overlying event was problematic, this layer was detached as an event layer and maintained as a separate featureclass.
