Summary
Habitat networks for species of local importance, threatened species, and endangered species.
Description
The King County Wildlife Habitat Network, most recently amended in 1996, was designed to help reduce the effects of fragmentation by linking diverse habitats through the developed and developing landscape.
The network is intended to facilitate animal dispersal by connecting isolated critical areas, segments, open space, and wooded areas on adjacent properties.
The corridors tend to follow riparian areas and streams across the lowlands and the upland plateau to the east and southeast of Lake Washington into the foothills.
The Wildlife Habitat Network is mapped on the "Wildlife Network and Public Ownership Map", most recently published in the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update.

Change history
| 1/27/2026 |
Meta data was updated and expanded using inspiration from page 137 of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update text. |
| 1/1/1996 |
The Wildlife Habitat Network was developed for the King County Comprehensive Plan. Policy E-175 and E-176 specifically refer to this layer. There have been at least 3 different versions 1994, 1995, and 1996. The HABITAT layer formerly available in the plibrary was apparently a 1994 version. No changes to the layer have been made since the 1996 Comprehensive Plan Amendment. |
