    COUNTY_NAME and PREFERRED_CITY fields have been added. COUNTY_NAME is a field with the spelled out county name, based on the three digit FIPS code found in the COUNTY field. PREFERRED_CITY is a field with the spelled out name of the preferred city for a Zip code, per the USPS.

    Polygon Updates: A new Zip code, Preston 98050 was added to zipcode_area and zipcode_shore_area. A few new Zip code polygons have been added where Zip codes cross county boundaries, thus requiring a separate polygon. All of these are small. Most notable is Alpental in east King County, now shown under 98068. Other smaller changes have been made along Zip code edges.

    Zip code boundaries have been edge matched to most recent parcel boundaries, road centerlines and city limits as needed. Nearly all Zip code boundaries in King County were modified in some fashion. Most changes were small, and due to changes in the parcel layer, or new construction on Zip code boundaries where the new address fell within a different Zip code. King County Zip codes that were not altered are 98040, 98047, 98068, 98070, 98154, and 98164. Pierce County Zip code altered: 98422. Snohomish County Zip codes altered are 98012, 98021, 98036, 98072, 98077, 98251, 98272 and 98294.

Nearly all Zip code boundries in Kitsap (983), Pierce (984) and Snohomish (982) have been updated to follow parcel lines when possible. Some 980-981 boundaries outside King County have been updated. Removed 98205 entirely as this Zip code was eliminated July 1, 2010. Removed 98260 (Langley WA) from Hat Island near Everett which is 98201. 98256 (Index WA), 98397 (Longmire WA), 98447, and 98483 converted from point only to polygon based Zip codes. Mason County Zip codes added. Balance of Camano Island 98282 in Island County added. Portion of Naches 98937 in Yakima County adjacent to SE King County added.
