Supplemental Information: Where designations overlap BOTH designations apply. All shoreline designations include "associated" wetlands and floodplains whether or not they are indicated explicitly in the water feature's description. SAO Wetlands layer and FEMA Floodplain layer were used. Boundaries between designations are perpendicular to the shoreline unless otherwise specified (as a property line). This layer shows the boundaries of various Shoreline Environments assigned to the Shorelines of the State by King County's Shoreline Management Master Program, as adopted from the Shorelines Management Act of 1971.

UrbanThe purpose of designating the urban environment is to ensure optimum utilization of the shorelines of the state within urbanized areas by permitting intesive use and by managing development so that it enhances and maintains the shorelines of the state for a multiplicity of urban uses.
RuralThe purpose of designating the rural environment is to restrict intensive development, function as a buffer between urban areas, and maintain open spaces and opportunities for recreational uses, within the ecological carrying capacity of the land and water resource.
ConservancyConservancy areas are intended to maintain their existing character
NaturalThe purpose of designating the Natural environment is to preserve and restore those natural resource systems existing relatively free of human influence.
