Description

Layer name: WTRBDY_AREA_FEAT_TYPE
Subject category: hydro
Title: Open Water symbolized for feature type
Feature Count: Layer files do not have a feature count since they are references to data only. See parent dataset to obtain this information.
Feature Type: ArcGIS LYR file
Abstract: ARCGIS LYR File: Symbolized on FEAT_TYPE item in order to show all available features and to allow preferred cartographic drawing order. Features coincident with lakes and streams (islands, falls, rapids, etc) are stored as overlapping polygons. By default they do not appear on top during symbolization and drawing. The symbolization order is set to give precedence to these features so that they appear on top of streams, rivers and lakes and ponds. In addition Mercer Island is unselected in definition query so that it does not show up as a fresh water island, but rather appears transparent as other major land (island) features.
Purpose: Cartographic applications where all feature types are visible, particularly those that would otherwise be masked by dominant water feature polygons. All primary water types are symbolized similarily to provide continuity to open water in general, with specialized symbolization to anthropic features and overlapping polygons to make them stand out uniquely.
